"The Blind Side" is a 2009 American semi-biographical sports drama film. Michael Oher was living for most of his life in foster cares jumping from different families. There was no consistency in his life or any positive influences impacting him in any way. His mother was a drug-addict and any information about his father was unheard of. A man whose couch he was sleeping on promoted him to the nearby Christian school as Michael's athleticism and size would be of interest for their football team. The school accepted him despite his "abysmal academic record" (Wikipedia).
Michael's early life was that of a low-income student with little to no college influences encouraging him. During this movie he was 17 years of age with no ambitions or goals even college-oriented, until he met the Tuohys.
The Tuohys were a white wealthy family with alumnae ties to University of Mississippi (Ole Miss). The mother, Leigh Anne, Tuohy took in young, misguided Michael as her own giving him a sense of family he had never experienced before. The nurturing and care he received from the Tuohys prophesied a great outlook on his future. With their dedication to his success they were able to raise his GPA to the minimal amount to be recruited for collegiate football team and make his life worth living.
